Henry Prempeh, a 1999 graduate of Church Farm School, will deliver the Convocation address on Friday, September 8 in the school's Chapel. Henry is a Christian, son of Ghanaian immigrants, husband and father. He received his master of arts from Pepperdine University in the area of clinical psychology with an emphasis on child and family therapy. He also has a PhD in clinical psychology from The George Washington University, where his research focused on the intersection between anger, depression and faith among African American adolescents. He then completed a one-year fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, where he worked with children and families through their Child Family Therapy Clinic. He has more than 15 years experience working with individuals struggling with a variety of psychological, emotional, behavioral, social and spiritual issues. He has worked in therapeutic settings in Washington, DC, public schools; the juvenile justice system; community organizations; hospitals; and private practice. Currently, Dr. Prempeh is a licensed practicing psychologist in northern Virginia. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys exercising, cooking, reading and quality time with family, friends and his faith community. 

Church Farm School welcomed back more than 100 alumni from the 1960s through 2020s, and every decade in between, for its annual Alumni Weekend May 12-14. Highlights from the weekend included a Career Conversations event, where current students were able to rotate by grade-level between four different panels – STEM, Business, Education & Activism and Creatives – to learn about how 20 of our alumni transitioned from Church Farm School to college to their varied careers as musicians, filmmakers, actors, nurses, attorneys, educators, engineering and more. 

There’s something equally exciting and terrifying when you’re the first to try something new. For junior Fayi Nshanji, the first Church Farm School student to participate in a “term-away” program, that adage has proven accurate. Fayi has spent the past four months at the High Mountain Institute (HMI) in Colorado; his “brother” Rafael Arellano will participate in the spring term. We caught up with Fayi via email (access to technology is limited, as you’ll soon find out) to learn more about this unique experience.
